Who will benefit from the Paediatric First Aid 1 day course?

This course is designed specifically for anyone who looks after babies and children and is required by their workplace to have the Paediatric First Aid certificate. This includes:

  • Teachers
  • Registered nannies
  • Childminders
  • Au pairs
  • Nursery and pre-school teachers
  • Nursery nurse assistants
  • Carers

It will be decided by the company assessment whether you are required to complete the 1 or 2 day training course. The 2 day Paediatric First Aid course is required by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) if you work with children under the age of 5.

It is required of the candidates to have the right level of physical and mental fitness as well as the learning ability to be able to complete this course.

Duration of this course:

The 1 day course – Consists of 6 hours of training.

What the course will include:

A course in: Course objectives and the rules and regulations.

Childrens First Aid

You will understand:

  • The roles of a first aider.
  • The importance of preventing cross-infection
  • You will learn how to record incidents and any actions that have been carried out
  • You will learn how to use available equipment – the contents of a first aid kit and a defibrillator
  • DRSAB – Primary and secondary survey
  • You will learn how to carry out CPR (basic life support) on a baby and child
  • You will learn what to do if a baby or child is choking
  • You will know how to administer medication

You will learn how to identify and then administer first aid to a baby and child with:

  • Minor wounds including cuts, grazes, bleeding, splinters, bruises and a nose bleed
  • Minor burns and scalds

Certification:

When you have completed the course, you will receive the Paediatric First Aid certificate which will be valid for 3 years.

There will be no formal assessment for this course but you will be required to take an active part on the day.

Where does the training take place?

The training can be carried out in your work place. We do ask that the following is required:

A suitable sized room that is inside and has an electrical socket point. It must be big enough for both theory and practical training as participants will be asked to simulate incidents on the floor. The room will need to be at a suitable temperature and will not be interrupted throughout the day while the course is taking place. There must be access to a toilet with running water.

  • A projector, screen and all videos needed
  • A flip chart
  • The presentation
  • The mannequins for all participants (1 between 2 people)
  • All training equipment and materials (including bandages and handouts)
